FAQ

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about rebranding.

Why has WSB University changed its name?

The name WSB (the acronym reads in Polish “Higher School of Banking”) was strictly associated with banking and economics and, for a long time, our offer has featured study programmes such as Psychology in Business, Internal Security, Logistics, Pedagogy, etc., which is why we wanted a new, distinctive name that would be more universal and more suited to our range of courses.

What does the name change mean in real terms?

The new name is unique and corresponds to the wide range of programmes that are available at our university.

What does the new name Merito mean?

We have been looking for a name that expresses: practicality, friendliness, modernity, accessibility and universality. The name refers in meaning to the Polish word “meritum” – essence, which evokes the pragmatism and effective performance that are characteristic of our university. The new name also highlights the wide range and practical nature of our programmes of study.

What about my diploma (one already issued)?

The diploma will remain valid, and duplicates will be issued with the old name.

In the future, will we also be a university of a higher category, with the word “Uniwersytet” in our Polish name? When will that happen?

Warsaw will apply for the status of Higher Education Institution with an academic profile (as defined by Polish law). The university has a precisely defined strategy in this direction.

What is changing for me if I am in the admission process?

This is only the university name that changes and nothing else. If the documents in the admission process were made available before the name change and have not been signed (in particular the educational services agreement or the fee regulations), new documents will be made available after the name change, and they will already state the new name.

I have graduated from WSB, are my graduate discounts valid at the university under the new name?

The discount scheme that existed before the name change remains the same. If there are any changes in the future we will keep you informed.

As a WSB graduate, can I exchange my diploma for a diploma with the new name? Upon written request, can I receive a diploma with the WSB logo?

Diplomas issued before the university name change date and their duplicates will not be exchanged. Graduates completing their degree before the change of the university's name, and applying for duplicates (diplomas, certificates and other graduation documents) will receive them with the old name. Diplomas from graduations taking place after the name change will bear the new name; it will not be possible to issue a diploma with the WSB logo.

I graduated from WSB University in 2022. In 2023, the university changed its name. How should I record this fact in my CV that I send to employers?

It is a good idea to write the new name and include the former name in brackets, i.e. WSB University.

Have all WSB Universities changed their names?

All universities in the TEB Academy Group have undergone a name change. All universities have been granted the right to use the word “Uniwersytet” in their Polish name due to their change of category (as defined by Polish law). WSB University Warsaw is an exception – it will be using the word “Uczelnia” in its Polish name and the English name has changed to WSB Merito University Warsaw.

Will it now be more difficult to get into university?

The name change of the university does not affect the admission rules. These are individually determined by the university.

How will the change of the university name affect the visa process at the Polish consulate in my country? Will I receive an additional document with information about the name change?

If necessary, the university will issue a name change certificate (or you will be able to download it yourself from the Extranet).
