The National Science Centre has published the ranking lists of projects qualified for funding as part of the OPUS-19 competition. Among the laureates was professor Magdalena Szyszko from the WSB University in Poznań with a project entitled “(Un)economic knowledge of consumers: Research on consumer expectations with the use of experiments and algorithms”, receiving research funding in the amount of PLN 555,312.
The scientific goal of this project is to develop and apply a proprietary method based on algorithms and experiments to assess the characteristics of consumer inflation expectations. New methods of quantification and evaluation of the properties of expectations will be presented, as well as a new application of algorithms for their estimation and evaluation. An additional contribution will be the development and popularization of a method of conducting experiments in the post-pandemic period. The project will also provide new knowledge about the effects of central banks’ communication on the possibilities and conditions for managing consumer expectations. This project will also have added value for monetary policy makers. The results will indicate the optimal policy in terms of impact on consumers and highlight all its limitations.
