“Doświadczanie uczenia się osób w średniej dorosłości”
“The book focuses on andragogy and issues of interest to developmental psychology. Its aim is to analyse the phenomenon of learning in middle adulthood, especially the factors of taking up education in this period. The analysis of the factors and areas of learning is based on the phenomenographic approach created for the purpose of studying the learning processes. The object of research were the educational experiences of the middle-aged, and its aim was to determine how adults experience learning – to get to the essence of the experience of the phenomenon of learning by the middle-aged.
By taking up these issues, the author contributes to the open debate on the places, situations and conditions of learning in middle adulthood. The book broadens the knowledge about the participation of adults in the process of life-long learning. The presented matrix of factors of learning in middle adulthood is a significant step towards building a theoretical model of life-long learning”.

“Funkcjonowanie systemu poradnictwa zawodowego oraz form aktywizacji zawodowej dla osób skazanych”
“The book focuses on the functioning of the professional counselling system and the forms of the activation of convicts. The professional counselling activities carried out in penitentiary centres are one of the factors in motivating convicts to take up jobs.
The process of professional counselling in penitentiary centres should help convicts to assess the possibility of getting a job in their chosen profession and practice this profession after being released from prison or jail. This process should be an integral part of resocialisation”.

“Współczesne dyskursy o edukacji kulturowej w Polsce i w Niemczech”
“As an academic monograph, this book make use of numerous Polish and German literary sources, mainly contemporary, but the authors also reach for the most important Polish and German studies of the 20th century, when pedagogy of culture and cultural education were developing very dynamically. As this is a comparative study, the reader will find in it information about and analyses of tens of problems taken up in Poland and Germany and a consistent comparison of similarities and differences that takes note of the cultural specificity of these neighbouring countries. […] The book stands out due to its novel editorial solutions which greatly enrich the reading process and encourage to reach for academic and methodical texts as well as prominent works of fiction which concern the studied problem area, but often boldly get ahead of the scientific and thought and educational practice (‘the wisdom of novels’)”.
From the review of prof. dr hab. Kazimierz Zbigniew Kwieciński, full member of PAN:
“This book is important for pedagogy, for it concerns issues of crucial importance in today’s socio-cultural context. In the world of great migrations, cultural diversification of societies, and the powerlessness of education faced with a multitude of axiological approaches and intolerance of otherness, it is a kind of a guide through the models of inter-cultural education; it gently leads the reader towards a broad anthropological understanding of culture and respect for local cultures. This unique compendium of knowledge about cultural education, presenting its perception and practice in two neighbouring democratic countries with different traditions, cultures and political and economic situations, offers numerous ideas, concepts, inspirations and ideas which deserve the attention of researchers and practitioners of cultural education, but also of readers concerned about today’s culture of living, culture of being with the Other, culture of the media”.

“Zarządzanie finansami organizacji z wykorzystaniem alternatywnych źródeł finansowania. Rynek – ryzyko – procedury”
“Corporate finance management is mainly based on decisions concerning funding. When choosing the right source of funding, one should take into account not only hitherto available, familiar, traditional methods of raising capital, but also their counterparts in the alternative market – and thus the question arises about the differences and similarities as well as pros and cons of each solution. This work is a response to contemporary challenges and an attempt to present the most important factors affecting the choice of the right source of funding on the one hand, and assess alternative options from the point of view of these factors and compare them with traditional options on the other. The merit of the book is the thorough and deepened analysis of alternative sources of funding in terms of their usefulness for companies. It assesses not only the condition and development prospects of particular sources, but also the procedures of raising capital, the costs of funding and the risk they carry. Each source was also compared with its counterpart in the traditional market.
The book is a valuable source of knowledge for students of economics, managers and those who make financial decisions – in a word, to everyone familiar with broadly-understood entrepreneurship”.

“Zarządzanie ryzykiem w procesie podejmowania decyzji ekonomicznych przez organizacje”
“Economic decisions are very important not only for the decision-maker, but also for the organisations’ closer and more distant environment, companies, households, legislative bodies, national and local governmental institutions and their executive bodies. A branch emerged within organisation and management theory called decision-making theory. As thousands, and perhaps hundreds of thousands of books have already been written about decision-making, it is justified to ask why the authors decided to write another one. The answer to this question is three-fold:

  • Firstly, all decision-making processes concern the future, which is difficult to foresee even with the most refined prognostic tools. The reason is that we make our economic activity takes place in conditions of uncertainty, which we try to measure, and once measured, it becomes economic risk. When making a decision, we know the economic risk, but we lack full knowledge of the consequences of our decision.
  • Secondly, because the decision-maker lacks full knowledge, his decisions are not optimal. Therefore Herbert Simon rightly said that all decision-making processes may be attributed with limited rationality and are largely based on heuristic models. Thus, there are many more studies aimed at increasing rationality in the decision-making process yet to come.
  • Thirdly, analyses of the decision-making process in the parliament, government and central administration, in the Monetary Policy Council and local legislative bodies, i.e., local government units, are scarce. The authors have had years of experience in local government units, the parliament and the constitutional body of the National Bank of Poland, i.e., the Monetary Policy Council. Drawing on this experience, in the monograph they conduct a comparative analysis of the decision-making process in the state and local government units, i.e., in public bodies, on the one hand, and in companies and households on the other.

The main aim of the monograph is to compare the decision-making process in different organisations (companies, households, the state and its bodies, local government units) in terms of limiting the economic risk to a minimum and achieving the desired result within a certain period of time. The authors will therefore be looking for an answer to the question of why companies achieve success not because they limit the economic risk, but because they make increasingly risky decisions”.

“Telematyka w zarządzaniu transportem wodnym”
“This monograph contributes to the full identification and systematisation of existing telematics solutions in marine and inland water transport. It describes in detail, for the first time, most telematics systems used in water transport, indicating their usefulness for optimising transport and logistics processes, increasing their security and raising the efficiency of operational management. Noteworthy is the scale and scope of the uses of telematics systems, especially in marine transport, ranging from simple shipping and port operations monitoring systems to autonomic navigation and maintenance-free propulsion systems leading to first attempts with fully automatic units. Current challenges include the integration of marine and inland water transport systems within multimodal transport and a significant reduction in the level of anthropopressure. Such a presentation of issues shows that the monograph is addressed to a broad readership interested in the genesis, current state and directions of development of telematics systems in marine and inland water transport. The author will continue his considerations concerning telematics in transport in further monographs within a series on transport telematics (“Telematyka transportu”), dedicated to land transport (car and rail transport) and airborne transport (aircraft with elements of space transport), which will be published in the following years”.
